Dr. Rakhin. K.V. has over two decades of experience in the field of product design and textile technology. He is a proficient design educator, specialising in interdisciplinary design tracks, with a strong background in research, academia, and industry. He has extensive experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and
supervising student projects, with a proven ability to enhance research and foster creativity in design. His research approach encourages scholars to think from multiple perspectives, broadens creative horizons, and provides numerous options for tackling real-world design challenges.
Dr. Rakhin. K.V. attained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad. He holds a Master’s degree in Design Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Design from Annamalai University. He also possesses a Diploma in Handloom/Textile Technology and a Post-Diploma in Textile Chemistry from the
Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Salem.
Prior to his tenure at the National Institute of Design, Haryana, Dr. Rakhin. K.V. served as an Assistant Professor at Amity University, Haryana. Before transitioning into academia, he was actively engaged in the textile and garment industries as a Product Development Merchandiser. During this period, he effectively collaborated with esteemed multinational retailers, including Limited Brands, Inc., GAP, Inc.,
Walmart Inc., Spartina449, and Permoda Colombia. His extensive industry knowledge encompasses design, product development, fabric R&D, and production. He has also contributed as a designer to projects under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, including marketing and export promotion schemes for the Weavers Service Centre, Chennai.
His research interests include haptic design, design management, sustainable design, indigenous design, sensory experience, textile-reinforced composites, natural fibres, and functional textiles.
