Ambrish Gaur is a multidisciplinary designer, artist, painter, design educator and
researcher with more than 17 years of professional experience spanning industrial
design, fashion and textiles, crafts, product development, design education and
government-led design initiatives. He holds a Master of Design in Textile Design from
the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, along with postgraduate and
undergraduate qualifications in Applied Art.

His practice lies at the intersection of design, fine art, craft, materials and product
innovation. With a strong foundation in drawing, painting, colour, form, composition
and visual communication, he brings an artistic and design-oriented approach to the
development of products, textiles, surfaces and visual experiences. His creative
practice includes watercolour painting, freehand drawing, illustration and visual
exploration.

Ambrish has extensive experience across the academic, industrial and craft sectors,
working with educational institutions, industries, artisans, craft clusters, MSMEs and
government organisations. His industry experience covers carpets, textiles, home
furnishings, fashion apparel and accessories, including design development for
domestic and international markets. His responsibilities have included market
research, trend forecasting, concept development, product development, material
sourcing, financial planning, design-team management, branding and promotion.
His engagement with the craft and development sector includes design research,
craft documentation, design intervention, artisan skill development, design clinics
and product innovation. He has undertaken govt. projects including ODOP project,
design intervention in the handloom and handicraft sector of Manipur, and a design
consultancy for the Muga Silk cluster in Dhemaji, Assam.

He has also contributed to government-supported seminars and training
programmes associated with the Office of the Development Commissioner
(Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, with a focus on design and
product innovation and strengthening the capabilities of handicraft artisans.
His areas of interest include Illustration, textile and fashion design, art and craft,
industrial design, product innovation, sustainable design, traditional knowledge,
material and surface exploration, design research, drawing and painting, and the
relationship between art, craft and contemporary design.
