Communication Design

Vikas Yadav is a design faculty member at the National Institute of Design, Haryana,
where he brings over seven years of industry experience spanning service and product
design to the classroom. He holds a Master's in Design (Communication Design) from
DA-IICT, graduating at the top of his class.

Prior to joining academia, Vikas spent five years at Havells India as a Visual and
Product Designer, where he shaped user experiences across the company's IoT and
connected-device ecosystem, working at the intersection of digital interfaces and
physical appliances, alongside brand and communication design. He also contributed to
the Havells One design system, establishing consistent typography, navigation,
iconography, and device-card patterns across the product line.

At Havells, Vikas also led the design of an agentic AI voice assistant embedded across
the company's connected appliance ecosystem, one of the first of its kind in Indian
consumer IoT. He designed not just interfaces but the assistant's conversational logic,
response states, and trust-building cues across a range of ambiguous, real-world usage
scenarios. The project remains a hands-on case study he draws on in the classroom
when discussing the emerging challenges of designing for AI-driven, agentic systems.

His work has been recognized at some of the world's most prestigious design platforms.
He is the recipient of the iF Design Award 2023 (UX & Product UX), the Red Dot
Award 2023 (Brand & Communication Design), the DNA Paris Design Award (UX & UI
Design), and the European Product Design Award (EPDA) 2024 (Interface Product
Design).

Beyond his design practice, Vikas is the creator of Jaanne Ka Haq, a graphic novel
chronicling the people's movement for the Right to Information (RTI). The novel was
launched ahead of the foundation-laying of the RTI Museum in Beawar, Rajasthan, in
the presence of Aruna Roy, Justice Madan Lokur, Justice S. Muralidhar, Prashant
Bhushan, and the SDM of Beawar. It will soon be published by the Mazdoor Kisan
Shakti Sangathan (MKSS) and the School for Democracy.

At NID Haryana, Vikas continues to bridge industry rigor and design education,
mentoring the next generation of designers with a practice-driven, socially engaged
perspective.
