M.Des. Digital Design Futures: (in line with NID A’s offering of this pathway in IM). Seats 15
The Institute proposes to launch the M.Des. in Digital Design Futures in response to the rapid transformation of design practice through AI, emerging technologies, digital platforms and immersive environments. The programme will prepare designers to anticipate future needs, critically engage with technology, and address complex social and technological challenges through research, systems thinking and design innovation. It will strengthen the Institute’s academic portfolio and position it at the forefront of emerging design practices.
Write-up:
The M.Des. in Digital Design Futures explores how design can shape emerging technologies, experiences and ways of living. As AI, immersive media, computational design, data and connected systems transform the design landscape, the programme prepares designers to anticipate change, question conventions and shape meaningful futures.
Working across design, technology, science, business, social sciences and the humanities, students explore emerging technologies as both tools and materials for design. Through research, experimentation and prototyping, they investigate new forms of interaction, products, services and experiences across digital, physical and hybrid contexts.
Projects may explore AI and generative design, immersive realities, computational creativity, speculative design, intelligent systems, data-driven experiences and human–machine interaction—preparing designers to imagine, prototype and shape what comes next.
Textile Innovation & Material Design
The Master’s in Textile Innovation & Material Design builds on Textile & Apparel Design to explore materials as drivers of innovation, culture and sustainable futures. Students investigate textiles across apparel, interiors, spatial applications and emerging industries, connecting craft knowledge with advanced technologies and global practices. The programme emphasises material experimentation, new material development, smart and e-textiles, circularity, bio-based materials and responsible production. Through research, making, prototyping and interdisciplinary collaboration, students develop solutions for functional, experiential and societal needs. Working across disciplines and scales, graduates are prepared to lead material innovation, textile research and progressive product and system development.
M.Des. Creative Leadership/ Executive PG in collaboration with IIM-N/ IIM-Amritsar. Both institutes have reached in principle alignment on this and are in process of signing the MoU. Seats 15This is proposed in response to the growing need to develop design professionals capable of assuming strategic and organisational leadership roles. While designers increasingly contribute to business innovation and decision-making, available industry data indicates that designers have historically been underrepresented in top executive positions such as CEO and COO, highlighting a gap between design expertise and organisational leadership. At the same time, the emergence of the Chief Design Officer (CDO) as a distinct leadership position in organisations reflects the increasing recognition of design as a strategic function. The proposed programme aims to bridge this gap by combining advanced design practice with leadership, strategy, innovation, management, and interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling graduates to progress beyond conventional design roles and take on senior leadership responsibilities. The programme will therefore strengthen the Institute’s academic portfolio while responding to evolving industry requirements and positioning design education for the changing role of designers in organisations. The programme responds to the evolving role of designers in organisations, where design is increasingly contributing to strategy, innovation and organisational transformation. It aims to develop design professionals who can integrate design practice with leadership, strategy, management, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme will enable students to understand organisational systems, lead multidisciplinary teams, develop strategic interventions and apply creative approaches to complex organisational and societal challenges. It will also engage with emerging leadership roles such as the Chief Design Officer, preparing graduates to contribute at senior levels across design, business, innovation, entrepreneurship and organisational transformation.
