INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

The B.Des Industrial Design programme prepares students to design functional and experiential products that respond to people, industries and evolving contexts. Combining creativity with technology, engineering and business thinking, the programme explores form, function, materials and manufacturing.

Students engage with furniture, lighting, assistive products, consumer goods and products for experience, developing solutions that are practical, human-centred and commercially viable. Through field-based learning, prototyping, digital manufacturing and industry-oriented projects, students transform ideas into tangible outcomes. Systems thinking is integral to the programme, enabling students to understand the interconnected relationships between people, products, services, technologies and the environment. The programme builds capabilities in design process, making, technology and problem-solving, preparing graduates to create relevant, innovative and future-facing products for contemporary life.

COMMUNICATION DESIGN

Communication design occupies a variety of disciplines, including strategic design and methods for conveying clear messages. It sets the framework for cognition and helps with problem-solving, rational thought, and understanding what one should do. NID Haryana offers this discipline in a way that enables students to comprehend and explore the sub-fields of communication design related to new media.

Communication Design courses are structured in such a way that students have the freedom to choose their projects keeping in mind all the sub-domains ranging from Animation, Film, Graphic Design, and User Experience Design (including Interface Design and Interaction Design), etc.

Students are exposed to emerging global trends, the cultural and historical context in which the designers need to function as well as the social and ethical factors that influence design decisions. ‘The ability to practice within a local and global context’ is a guiding principle of this program across the pathways.

TEXTILE & APPAREL DESIGN

The B.Des Textile & Apparel Design programme connects grassroots craft traditions with global practices, contemporary lifestyles and industry demands, spanning textiles, apparel, home furnishings and spatial applications. Students explore how materials, surfaces, textiles and craft can shape products, environments and experiences.

The programme covers functional and assistive clothing, apparel, home and lifestyle products, spatial textiles, interiors, e-textiles, textile-based material innovation and sustainable product development. Through hands-on making, field-based learning, design research and interdisciplinary collaboration, students engage with communities, artisans and industry.

From craft to mass manufacturing and from products to spaces, students develop the ability to translate material knowledge, technology and creativity into functional, meaningful and market-relevant solutions for contemporary and future-facing industries.

FOUNDATION

The one-year Foundation Program introduces students to the fundamentals of design and helps develop ways of perception, aesthetic sensitivity, understanding of the multi disciplinary nature of design and relationship of design with human senses and emotions, culture, environment and ecology. Basic design studio courses are augmented by introductory studies in Humanities. This allows the students to develop a world view, understanding of the Indian milieu and the socio-cultural context for design to operate.

The varied inputs over two semesters provide the necessary direction, stimuli, facilities and experience to foster creativity and thereby help each individual discovers their own identity and potential. The Foundation Program is the basis on which the remaining design curriculum is built.

LET'S SHAPE THE FUTURE OF DESIGN, TOGETHER
